Compositions

Life is but a Dream, 2023

“Life is but a Dream” is a musical journey that transcends the boundaries of film music and folk-popular music, inviting listeners to immerse themselves in meditative introspection. Inspired by Korean folk tunes and Buddhist philosophies, Na Young composed this piece to share her reflections on perceiving life as a circular journey and accepting life as the way it unfolds.

Cho-Ji-Il-Gwan (初志一貫), 2021

"Cho-Ji-Il-Gwan" is an intimate audiovisual exploration of Na Young's multifaceted identity, where her inspirations from Buddhist philosophies and her Korean identities are demonstrated through the lotus flower imagery and the usage of the Korean folk tune 'Arirang.'

Through the experimental textures of folktronica and psychedelic soundscapes, this piece creates a dreamlike realm.

Floating Stars, 2020

Through playful exploration of asymmetrical meters, this piece paints a sonic portrait of stars drifting in the cosmic void. Their distant light is translated into musical patterns that evolve through careful diminution. With influences from Minimalism, the composition's ternary structure  provides an architectural framework for these celestial motifs to dance and transform, creating a delicate balance between mathematical precision and astronomical wonder.

Dancing on a Wire, 2020

This piece traces the arc of psychological turbulence, from the initial denial of creeping darkness through the attempts for concealment, to the cathartic release of emotional breakdown and eventual recovery. The hemiola figures serve as a musical embodiment of fluctuating state of mind, while the chordal homophony in the coda implies finding peace after emotional turmoil, creating a narrative that speaks to the universal experience of emotional struggle and resilience.
